John McCain just gave an excellent answer on immigration, speaking about the passion immigrants feel for their country. He told viewers to go to Washington D.C. and look at the Vietnam War Memorial, where he said you’ll see thousands of Hispanics who fought and died for America. McCain mentioned immigrants enriching our culture and the important role they play in America. Again, McCain stood up, lowered his voice, and appeared sincere on the issue.
Even more important, McCain drew significant applause on an issue where he is weak with the conservative base. That means he must have done well.
