Ron Paul just made an interesting point near the beginning of the debate. In response to a question about how 77% of Republican voters support the war but he doesn’t, Paul said the poll numbers are misleading because the number of self-identifying Republican voters has shrunk based on the war issue. Rasmussen shows only 31% of voters identify as Republicans, down from the peak of 37.3% during 2004. Although it is doubtful voters are leaving the party in droves due to the single issue, there may be some slight corrosion of the base.
